Background
Paul William Nishimuta was born on March 16, 1924 in Cushing, Oklahoma. Nishimuta joined the army in 1944 at the age of 20,
serving as an infantry soldier, rifleman, and private in the 442nd Regimental Combat Team, 100th Infantry Battalion (Separate)
during World War Two. Nishimuta served in Italy, France, and Germany, and was awarded the Bronze Star for his service in Italy.
After his service he was a sales representative for the Lawton Constitution newspaper in Lawton, Oklahoma, later moving to
Kailua-Kona, Hawaii in 1969 to manage the West Hawaii Today newspaper. After his retirement in 1985, Nishimuta moved to San
Diego to live with his family. Nishimuta passed away on July 13, 2015 at the age of 91.
