Description
The Centennial High School Collection (1955-2016; undated) contains four boxes and 3.75 linear feet of material generated
by or related to Centennial High School, located in Compton, CA. A majority of this collection contains copies of "War Cry"
Centennial High School yearbooks, as well as material related to the Class of 1966 13th, 25th, 30th, 35th, 40th, and 50th
reunions and includes: programs, keychains, flyers, buttons, DVDs, photographs, t-shirts, and pamphlets. This collection also
contains material regarding the Class of 1964 30th and 50th reunions; a commencement program from 1968; a class of 1957 plaque,
sweater; adult booster club jacket; photograph album containing images from classes of 1957-1959; clippings regarding former
alumni and former teacher John Redfud; issues of Centennial High School newspapers; Centennial High School Alumni Association
by-laws; and other material. Also included in this collection are two Compton Junior High School yearbooks from 1961 (Willowbrook)
and 1962 (Vanguard).
Background
Centennial High School is a public high school in Compton, California. Construction on the high school began in 1953, and
was completed in 1954, with its first graduating class being in 1954. Centennial High School is part of Compton Unified School
district which also includes Compton High School, and Manuel Dominguez High School.
