Description
This collection includes Poston incarceration camp high school and reunion booklets, Centenary Methodist Church booklets, Imperial Valley Nikkei booklets, and other booklets related to Japanese American organizations. Also included are two photograph albums related to the Monterey Park Japanese American Senior Center and the Japanese American Gallery Furusato Celebration Premiere Opening and Dedication.
Background
Sam Shigeru Miyamoto was born in Imperial Valley in California. During World War II, his family was incarcerated at the Poston incarceration camp before becoming a hostage on the Gripsholm Exchange. Miyamoto served in the Military Intelligence Service during the Korean War and later worked at Mitsubishi International. He died in 2017.
