Abstract: Published annually, in print, by Pomona College from 1895 through 2012,
Metate is the yearbook for the college. The juniors in 1895 chose the name "Metate", which is a Native American word meaning "mortar
or grinding stone." The name was chosen to reflect the group's efforts "to grind up and get into mentally digestible condition
the year’s doings" as they put the yearbook together.
