Abstract: This collection consists of photographs, ephemera and artifacts collected by the Santa Cruz Museum of Natural History. This material is representative of various people, places, and events related to Santa Cruz County art, culture and history. The Santa Cruz Museum of Natural History can trace its origin to the late-1800s when and the collection of naturalist Laura Hecox. Ms. Hecox deeded her collection to the City of Santa Cruz for the establishment of the first public museum. It opened its doors on August 21, 1905 in the basement of the then new Carnegie Library. The museum moved to its present location in Seabright in 1954.
