Tom and Dick Smothers started performing togther in the late 1950s; their CBS
Smothers Brothers comedy hour (1967-69) was cancelled over issues of censorship, political satire in entertainment, and overall creative control between
the Smothers and CBS; they sued CBS and won but did very little performing; stopped performing together (1972) and for the
next five years performed separately and together in stage productions; in the early 1980s, they re-formed their comedy team
and became spokesmen for Magnavox; did
