Henry Rider Haggard was born June 22, 1856 in Bradenham, Norfolk, England; attended Lincoln's Inn, 1881-85; called to the
bar, 1885; secretary to Lieutenant-Governor Henry Bulwer in Natal, South Africa, 1875-77; Master and Registrar of High Court
of Transvaal, 1877-79; returned to England in 1879 and began managing wife's estate in Norfolk in 1880; researched agricultural
conditions and rural populations in England, 1901-2; chair of the committee, Society of Authors, 1896-98; wrote many novels,
including Dawn (1884), King Solomon's Mines (1885), Allan Quatermain (1887), She : a history of adventure (1886), and Belshazzar
(1930); died in London, 1925.
