Biography
Charles A. Schroeder was a professor of horticulture and botany at UCLA. Born in St. Paul, Minnesota in 1913, he moved to
Los Angeles in 1923. He received his B.A. and M.A. from UCLA in botany, and his Ph.D. in subtropical horticulture. He began
teaching at UCLA in 1943. In addition to teaching courses on subtropical horticulture and botany, he conducted research on
subtropical and tropical fruits at UCLA and abroad, publishing many articles in various journals. He received both a Guggenheim
and Fulbright fellowships, and later directed the Fulbright project at UCLA and other southern California institutions. In
1963 he was named one of six outstanding teachers of the year in the Southern Campus. He was a founding member of the University
Credit Union and served on many faculty committees. He retired in 1983.

The collection consists of hand colored glass slides depicting landscapes, exterior and interior views of country residences,
gardening, farming and flower and shrub specimens.
