Abstract: The Russian Maps of Foreign Countries Collection includes more than 60 maps of various countries produced by the Soviet Union
government during the height of the Cold War. National maps portray statistical, agricultural, industrial, climate data, and
show major roads and cities. Relief is shown by shading and gradient tints. The bulk of the collection dates from the late
1960s to the early 1970s.

The collection was acquired and developed by faculty from the Geography Department while conducting research in the Soviet
Union.
Scope and Content of Collection
The Russian Maps of Foreign Countries Collection includes maps of countries from North America, South America, Europe, Africa,
Asia, and Oceania (New Zealand). The geographic emphasis of the collection focuses on Russian maps of countries from Europe
and Africa. Maps are folded and bound within small booklets and generally include legends and smaller insets. Scales and color
vary.
