Biographical
Larry Carl Kephart was born July 09, 1950 in Atwood, Kansas. His family moved to Oklahoma and found work in the oil fields.
About three years later the family moved to Venice, California. Kephart graduated from high school with honors. In 1968 he
joined the United States Marine Corps and came to understand he was gay. He served in Vietnam from 1970 to 1971. He completed
his service at Camp Pendleton and then attended Los Angeles City College. Kephart worked part-time as a gopher for an erotic
film producer. He was a member of the Society of Pat Rocco Enlightened Enthusiasts (SPREE) for about eight years. Kephart
also participated in other LGBTQ organizations including Christopher Street West (CSW), where he served as a board member
for seven years. Kephart died in 2016.
