    Abstract: Collection contains 432 glass plate negatives taken by San Francisco photographer Willard E. Worden between 1907 and 1912. More then half of the collection depicts the building of the Ingleside Terraces residential neighborhood by the Urban Realty Improvement Company. The remainder includes residences in Jordan Park, Richmond District and Visitacion Valley; various Victorian residential interiors; Sacred Heart School; the Y.M.C.A. building at Golden Gate Avenue and Leavenworth and Y.M.C.A. camps; and views of Berkeley and Piedmont.
    Physical Location: The collection is stored on site.

    Conservation

    During processing, the entire collection was re-foldered and re-housed in acid-free 4-flap enclosures and glass plate negative boxes. Glass plates were scanned as TIFFs in 2003.

    Biography History

    Willard Elmer Worden was born in Deleware on November 20, 1868. Worden served in the military from May 1898 - June 1901 during the Spanish-American War. Worden began his career as a photographer in San Francisco in 1902. His first studio was at the Cliff House. He later moved to a gallery on Stockton Street. Worden received acclaim for his photographs of Chinatown, the 1906 Earthquake and Fire and the Panama Pacific International Exposition. Worden was a long-time resident of the Western Addition and confirmed bachelor. Willard E. Worden died on September 6, 1946 at the Veterans Administration Hospital, Palo Alto and is buried in the San Francisco National Cemetery, Presidio.
