Description
The original collection received in 2016 contained 3 VHS tapes, 44 Micro Audio Cassettes, and 117 Audio Casettes that were
converted to three .mp4 video and 161 .mp3 audio files for access copies in the Digital Repository. Currently there are 164
oral history interviews with 65 veterans and Japanese Americans that lived on Maui during WWII.
Background
Originally formed in 1981, the Maui Sons and Daughters of the 442nd sought to "perpetuate the memory and accomplishments of
the Japanese Amercian soldiers of World War II." The group of volunteers worked with local historian Dawn Duensing to collect
oral histories of WWII veterans and Japanese Americans who lived on Maui during the war years.
Restrictions
All requests for permission to publish or quote from oral histories must be submitted in writing to the USC Digital Repository
at uscdr@usc.edu. Permission for publication is given on behalf of the Digital Repository as the owner of the digital items
and is not intended to include or imply permission of the copyright holder, which must also be obtained.
Availability
The collection consists of digital files preserved in the USC Digital Repository. The files are not publicly accessible online.
