Biographical / Historical
The Community Association of the Peninsula (CAP) was established in 1978 as the Palos Verdes Peninsula Community Center Association
(PVPCCA). Founded by community members Agnes Moss and Joan Moe, CAP was formed to obtain facilities and support for cultural,
recreational and social services on the Peninsula. CAP's first major project was the creation of the Norris Community Theatre,
the first performing arts facility on the Peninsula.
CAP's President Agnes Moss and its Board of Trustees served on the Theatre Management Board to oversee the day-to-day activities
and long range plans for the Norris Theatre. The theatre opened in September 1983 and featured music, drama, dance, film,
children's festival and a rock theatre in a weeklong opening celebration.
After successfully establishing the Norris Community Theatre, CAP turned its attention to other community service projects.
These included the creation of a senior advocacy center; the formation of a Multicultural Affairs Committee to identify the
needs and concerns of the Peninsula's developing ethnic communities; and Exploring Growth Opportunities (EGO) designed to
help high school students uncertain about going on to college to find jobs in the business community. In 2000, CAP produced
"PV 2000: Looking to the Peninsula's Future", a report resulting from a three year study conducted to identify trends and
issues affecting the Peninsula. Topics included transportation, the "graying of the Peninsula", cultural diversity, education,
and the environment.
CAP was renamed the Norris Center for the Performing Arts in 2003. (In 2015 the Norris Center for the Performing Arts was
changed to Palos Verdes Performing Arts.)
