Historical or Biographical Note
Vessel History: The sidewheel paddle steamship T.J. POTTER was built in 1888 for the Oregon Railway & Navigation Company.
She operated on the Columbia River and in the Puget Sound. During her 1901 rebuild, she was lengthened and an upper deck was
added. T.J. POTTER stopped operating as a passenger vessel in 1916. She was abandoned at Youngs Bay near Astoria, Oregon.

P15-007) are comprised of two photographs of T.J. POTTER underway and one photograph of the Kodiak, Alaska waterfront. The
collection has been processed to the Collection level and is open for use.
Contains of two black-and-white photographic prints of the sidewheel paddle steamship T.J. POTTER underway during two different
phases of her career, 1888-1901 and 1901-1916, and one black-and-white photographic print of the Kodiak, Alaska waterfront
along the Near Island Channel circa 1945-1950.
- 1. T.J. POTTER (built 1888; passenger vessel) underway, port broadside view, 1888-1901. Possibly on the Columbia River. Photographed by Arthur B. McAlpin or Charles Y. Lamb of Portland, Oregon. T.J. POTTER is flying an Oregon Railway & Navigation Company flag. Black-and-white albumen photographic print (Boudoir Card), 5.25 x 8.5 in. Taped to the verso of the photograph is an article titled "Museum officials pick bones of T.J. Potter" about the Columbia River Maritime Museum searching the remains of T.J. POTTER at Youngs Bay near Astoria, Oregon, possibly in 1972. The article includes a brief history of the vessel.
- 2. T.J. POTTER (built 1888; passenger vessel) underway, possibly on the Columbia River, view off the port bow, 1901-1916. Black-and-white letterpress print, 3.5 x 5.75 in. A brief history and description of the vessel written by Donald Bates is printed on the verso of the photograph.
- 3. Kodiak, Alaska, waterfront, circa 1945-1950. View as seen from Near Island looking across the Near Island Channel. Small craft are docked alongside the wharf. Among the buildings in view are one with "Donnelley & Acheson" painted on the roof and one with "Kodiak" painted on the roof. Black-and-white photographic print, 8.125 x 9.875 in.
No arrangement due to the small size of the collection.
