    Biographical note

    William B. Adrian was born on November 23, 1937. He attended Abilene Christian College where he earned a B.S. in Mathematics in 1959 and a M.S. in Educational Administration in 1961. He later attended the University of Denver where he received a Ph.D. in Higher Education in 1967. During his tenure at Pepperdine University, he served as Dean of the Graduate School of Education and Psychology from 1983 to 1985, Executive Vice President from 1985 to 1986, and Provost from 1986 to 1993. Adrian left Pepperdine University in 1993 for a Fulbright fellowship at Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland.

    Historical note

    The Provost is the chief academic officer of Pepperdine University and has responsibility, under the President, for the administration, coordination and development of all academic activities and functions of the University. He/She works with the deans of Pepperdine's five schools on all issues related to the effective planning and management of the University's academic resources. In addition, he/she is directly responsible for the University's Disability Services Office and the office of the University Chaplain.

    The collection is arranged in chronological order.

    Scope and Content

    The collection consists of inter-office memoranda and correspondence sent by or to William B. Adrian. The materials document the administrative activities Adrian was involved in from 1985 to 1993. A small amount of material from the time Adrian was transferring from his role as Executive Vice President to Provost is also included.
