Abstract: The Library and the Extended Education Program at Sonoma State University were awarded a grant in 1983 from the National Endowment
for the Humanities for an Indochinese Cultures Project focusing on the diverse peoples and cultures of Cambodia, Laos, and
Vietnam.

Scope and Content of Collection
The collection, composed of 101 color photographs with accompanying text and three examples of textiles, is a composite of
project work with the Hmong and Mien Hill people in Merced and Khmer, Khmu, Laotian and Vietnamese people in Northern California.
It also includes conference materials.
A majority of the photographs are 7 x 10", the largest is 13 x 20”.
Additionally, 320 slides from original photographs by Eric Crystal have been converted to digital images on CDROM and depict
Indochinese immigrants in California. The slides are housed along with conference materials in the University Library’s Multimedia
Center [CDROM 1225].
