    Biography/Administrative History

Retired U.S. Navy, Captain Claude B. Mayo was the Superintendent of the California Maritime Academy from July 1, 1940 to October 31, 1947. Unlike today, during the beginning of Mayo's tenure the title of Superintendent was synonymous with Ships Master. It was during early World War II that the position split into the roles of Superintendent and Ships Master, changing again to Commanding Officer in July of 1946. It was during this time as Superintendent that the School moved to its current location at Morrow Cove in Vallejo, California; and when the school acquired the T.S. Golden Bear I.
