Description
The collection is a multi-media archive of Nevada County, California, governments, with records dating from the 1850s. Holdings include vital statistics indexes, probate cases, records of naturalizations, courts, deeds and property tax, voter registrations, city and county ordinances.
Background
Nevada County, formed in 1851, played a large role in California's Gold Rush history and development. The area has been a continuous crossroad for travelers in America's Westward migration, for immigrants, and for visitors such as future notables Mark Twain and Herbert Hoover. Records allow for in-depth research into family history, house history, and the myriad of 19th and 20th century details that reveal the growth of a unique community.
