Description
This collection contains a 40-volume set of Shakespeare’s plays previously owned by Katherine Drummond, and includes photographs from Shakespearean performances held at the Old Globe Theatre.
Background
“The New Temple Shakespeare” edition of William Shakespeare’s plays was originally published in 1894. This edition, edited by M.R. Ridley with engravings by Eric Gill, was published between 1934 and 1936. Katherine Drummond acquired the volumes, apparently as gifts, between 1935 and 1942.
