Organizational History
The American Cancer Society's origins reach back to 1913, when it was founded as the American Society for the Control of Cancer.
It reorganized in 1945 as the American Cancer Society, using an infusion of new money to establish it's research program.
It has grown into one of the largest volunteer health organizations, providing funding for cancer research, patient support
and public awareness campaigns.
Studies sponsored by the American Cancer Society were instrumental in discovering the link between smoking and cancer. ACS
has funded a full slate of tobacco control programs ranging from smoking cessation assistance to environmental smoke awareness
and tobacco control policy work.
Physical Characteristics and Technical Requirements
