Abstract: In 1857, immigrants coming from the Dalmatian Coast to the San Francisco Bay Area formed the Slavonic Illyric Mutual and Benevolent Society in San Francisco. After a few changes in the name of the organization over the years, it moved into permanent quarters and opened its doors in 1957 as the Croatian American Cultural Center. In 2017 the Croatian American Cultural Center donated its archive of audio and video recordings, as well as selected documents, from various performances which took place in the San Francisco area between 2000 and 2016. Since the performances of the CACC are ongoing, more materials will be added to this collection on an annual basis. Performances have included primarily folk and popular music from Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Bosnia, Hungary, Macedonia, and Greece, but have also included music from other areas around the world such as Brazil, Ireland, Scotland, Italy and the United States. Music genres have also included folk dance music, songs, jazz, ragtime, classical music, and various types of fusion. Performance formats have included music festivals, dance parties, and concerts and have often featured specific ensembles consisting of instruments such as tamburitzas or mandolins. The audio and video files have been transferred into the Stanford Digital Repository from which they can be accessed for research.
