    Abstract: The Bowers Rubber Works and the Pioneer Rubber Company were rubber factories in Pittsburg for the manufacture of rubber such as fire hose, belting, packing, automobile tires, and several other products. The factories covered a considerable acreage and employed several hundred people in total (Bowers Rubber Works is known to have employed about 250 men).

    The two books were part of a much larger donation of items by the Friends of the Pleasant Hill Library in 1997.

    Scope and Content of Collection

    The box includes two books. One contains the handwritten bylaws of the Bowers Rubber Works and was written in 1916. The other book contains typed minutes from a few board meetings of the Pioneer Rubber Company from 1934 to 1951.
