Series IV. Brochures, 1910-1962, undated

Physical Description: 146.0 linear feet (206 boxes)

Scope and Content Note

For works of art on sale, Duveen Brothers personnel prepared a descriptive brochure for the work which provided the provenance, exhibition record, and when possible, dates for the work. A text describing the subject or the biography of the artist might be included, and expertise by respected names in art scholarship were often included. The information for these scholarly commentaries might be culled from information exclusive to the Duveen archives or might be extracted from published sources. The archive possesses these brochures in all states of finish, from handwritten drafts to typed drafts to lavishly bound final copies.

Arranged in two groupings: Series IV.A. Painting and sculpture; Series IV.B. Decorative arts.
