The Costume Designers Guild was formed in 1953 as an independent organization that negotiated separate contracts for its members who were either freelance designers or designers under contract to a studio. The Guild was formed exclusively for costume designers and in 1976, joined the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees as local 892.
The Costume Designers Guild Collection spans the years 1936-2005 (bulk 1942-1976) and encompasses 92 linear feet.
