Description
The records of the College of Social
and Behavioral Sciences consist of records created by the College and its academic
departments. Records include those of the Office of the Dean as well as various departments
within the college. All represented departments contain limited material however the History
department is particularly well represented. The collection includes information on academic
minors and student activities, event fliers and programs, annual reports, and meeting
minutes.
Background
The College of Social and Behavioral Sciences began at San Fernando Valley State College as
the School of Letters and Science. In 1972, when California State University, Northridge was
established, the School of Letters and Science was split into three different schools, with
the Anthropology, Geography, History, Political Science, Psychology and Sociology majors
incorporated into the new School of Social and Behavioral Sciences. The school was renamed
the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences sometime in the 1990s.
