Biographical / Historical
The FireWork: Women in Fire Suppression newsletter, created by Terese Floren and Linda Willing in connection to the Women
in Fire association, was established in the fall of 1982 as a means to share experiences and connect the national community
of women fire fighters.
Scope and Contents
The FireWork Newsletter collection (1982-1999) consists of 181 monthly publications of Firework: Women in Fire Suppression.
Articles are written by women who discuss their experiences as firefighters. Topics include: hiring and retention; challenges
female firefighters face in the field such as physical and emotional demands of the job; sexism; networking opportunities
and events; and more related subjects.

Director of Archives and Special Collections. Permission for publication is given on behalf of Special
