Transferred from the Water Resource Collections and Archives, University of California, Riverside in 2018.
Custodial History
This collection was originally in the custody of the Water Resource Center at UC Berkeley. In 2011, the Water Resource Center
collections were transferred from UC Berkeley to Department of Special Collections at UC Riverside. In 2018, at the request
of the donor, this collection was transferred back to UC Berkeley is now held at The Bancroft Library.

Processing Information
The arrangement and most of the description for this collection was created by the Water Resource Center at UC Berkeley. The
collection was processed by WRC staff members Randy Brandt and Erica Nordmeier. Lara Michels (Head of Archival Processing
at The Bancroft Library) utilized the original finding aid created by the WRC in the creation of the current finding aid for
the collection. The call number has been changed from MS 81/3 to BANC MSS 2022/208.

Scope and Content
Articles, congressional bills, correspondence, minutes, newsletters, news clippings, publications, reports, research notes,
petitions, testimonies, and written statements compiled by Friends of the River. This collection contains four series: New
Melones Dam, California Senate Subcommittee on River Management, Miscellaneous, and Clippings. The New Melones Dam series
contains information on the organization of the Friends of the River Foundation and efforts to halt construction of the dam,
have the Stanislaus River designated with wild and scenic river status ("Save the River"), etc. The Subcommittee on River
Management series contains documents given to Friends of the River by California State Senator Peter H. Behr (Chair of the
Subcommittee), and concerns waterways plans for the American River, the Salmon River, and the Van Duzen River. The Clippings
series contains newspaper and magazine clippings on a wide variety of water and river-related topics. The arrangement of the
Clippings series has not been altered, and appears in the order arranged by the creator.
