Background
John Alan Walker, art history consultant and bookseller, was born on April 26, 1942 in New York City. He lived in Big Pine,
California for 40 years. Among his publications are "Documents on the Life and Art of William Wendt, 1865-1946"; "Maynard
Dixon, 1875-1946 : an unauthorized contribution towards a catalogue raisonne, with the emphasis on bibliography"; "Documents
on the life and art of William Wendt, 1865-1946, California's painter laureate of the paysage moralisé"; "William Wendt's
pastoral visions and eternal platonic quests : a study of the artist's theory of beauty"; "Period-pieces : American art 1890's-1930's";
"A bibliography of 238 items relating to Rembrandt Harmensz van Rijn, 1606-1669"; "Accounts of early California art : a reprint
anthology; and Benjamin chambers brown : a chronological and descriptive bibliography". These were published by Walker in
Big Pine between 1988-1992. Walker died on July 3, 2003 in Bishop, CA. He is buried in Big Pine Cemetery.
