Biographical History
Jean Holloway (1917-1989), born Gratia Jean Casey, was a screenwriter of both radio and television programs. An alumna of
San Jose State College, Holloway began writing successful screenplays for several prestigious radio shows. She went on to
be contracted with MGM Studios and wrote three musical film scripts between 1946 and 1948. While Holloway was writing television’s
first daytime, live continuous soap opera “The First 100 Years,” she met her husband, actor Dan Tobin.
Scope and Content of Collection
The Jean Holloway Papers (1932-1948) contains typed manuscripts and handwritten creative works by screenwriter and San Jose
State College alumna Jean Holloway. The bulk of the collection consists of screenplays, poetry, radio scripts and some coursework
from her time in college.
Arrangement
This collection is arranged into three series: Series I. Creative Writing; Series II. Scripts and Screenplays; and Series
III. Personal Materials.
