    Biography/Administrative History

    Antoinette Guernsey Gay (ca. 1894-1981) grew up in Pacific Grove. She became a social worker for the Child Welfare Society in New York City; then returned to Pacific Grove after World War I. She taught kindergarten, and in 1925 became a reporter for the [Monterey] Peninsula Daily Herald. In 1933, she and her husband Milus Gay, also a Herald reporter, started the weekly newspaper; The Monterey Trader, for which she later wrote the "Calle de Alvarado" and a history of the Presidio of Monterey for the city of Monterey.
