Description
Papers and photographs document the career of Southern Pacific fireman, road foreman, and trainmaster James "Jim" R. Efaw in the 1940s to 1980s.
Background
James Roy Efaw was an engineman, fireman, trainmaster and road foreman for the Southern Pacific Railroad and the Southern Pacific Transporation Company in Roseville, California, Tucumcari, New Mexico and El Paso, Texas. He began as an engineman and fireman in Sacramento, and Roseville, California. He was in the Army Air Force in 1946. On August 31, 1972, Jim Efaw was appointed the acting trainmaster for Roseville and in December, was appointed trainmaster. On January 15, 1976, he was appointed road foreman of engines at Del Rio, San Antonio Division.
