Abstract:
This collection contains photograph albums and scrapbooks of photographs, newspaper articles, and pamphlets about the
University of San Diego School of Education.

The San Diego College for Women and College for Men each had teacher credentialing programs in secondary education. The College
for Woman also had elementary and special education credentialing programs. The College for Men and College for Women education
departments merged in 1969 to form the Department of Education. In September 1970, the Department of Education moved to the
fifth floor of DeSales Hall, the main administrative building on campus. In 1973, the School of Education offered Masters'
programs in Elementary Education, Secondary Education, Special Education, Counselor Education, Educational Psychology, and
a Master of Arts in Teaching. In November 1984, the newly remodeled Harmon Hall was dedicated as the new home of the School
of Education. By 1987, the Division of Teacher and Undergraduate Education and the Division of Special Education combined
into the Division of Teacher and Special Education. Also, the Marriage, Family and Child Counseling graduate program was developed.
The School of Education became the School of Leadership and Education Sciences (SOLES) in 2005.

This collection contains a scrapbook of photographs, newspaper articles, and pamphlets about the University of San Diego School
of Education. Photographs are of School of Education faculty, administration, and students. These include photographs of the
June 1985 Master Teacher reception, individuals at a variety of events, faculty and administration in offices, photographs
of the Special Education Symposium on Learning Disabilities held in DeSales Hall, and photographs of Pat Martin's retirement
party. Pat Martin retired in 1986 after working in the School of Education for 13 years.
This collection also contains an album of photographs from the Harmon Hall dedication on November 30, 1984 and a scrapbook
dedicated to DeForest "Dee" Strunk. Strunk was the Director of Special Education and taught in the University of San Diego
School of Education for 15 years until his passing in September 1985. The scrapbook is a compilation of photographs and notes
of well-wishes sent to Strunk during his illness.
