The Janus Barfoed collection spans the years circa 1914-1954 and encompasses approximately 62 linear
feet. The collection is comprised of clippings and ephemera, lobby cards, press sheets, and photographs
related to American B-Western films. The material in the Personality files series is arranged
alphabetically by personal name. At the request of the donors, papers and photographs are housed
together. Some 200 cowboy actors are represented.
Jens Janus Barfoed was a Danish photograph archivist, a fan of American B-Western films, and a
collector of photographs and memorabilia related to low-budget Westerns. He served as the head of the
stills archive at the Danish Film Museum. Over the course of his lifetime, Barfoed compiled a personal
collection of material related to Western films of the silent era and to those less-publicized second
features of the studio era.
