Series I: General Office Files, 1975-1996

Scope and Content Note

As the bulk of the collection, this series represents the heart of the materials preserved and collected by Mineta and his staff to document his participation in the redress movement. This series of materials consists of correspondence, memoranda, newspaper clippings, news releases, photocopied testimony transcripts, draft and official House of Representatives or Senate bills, program brochures, and notes mostly documenting Mineta's efforts and involvement on behalf of Japanese American redress. However, there are also some non-redress materials related to civil rights issues, especially as they pertain to Asian Americans and Americans from the Pacific Islands. Researchers should also note that correspondence is often enclosed with materials such as newspaper articles and photocopied testimony transcripts. The original topical/alphabetical order of the files has been maintained. The researcher should be prepared to scan the entire series for relevant materials.
