Series 1: General Correspondence, ca. 1929-1985.

Scope and Content Note

Consists principally of correspondence, from 1929-1985, between Peter Balakshin and various Russian emigre and American writers, literary critics, editors, professors, journalists, researchers, and book distributors. Some of these letters concern arrangements regarding translating literary works. Other correspondence derives from Balakshin's research concerning Russian emigre writers. With its help, he wrote a series of Russian emigre profiles, which were printed in the magazine Russian Life in 1984. Copies of these articles are also included in the collection.
