Artists' files, Series I. circa 1966-2002

Physical Description: 19.1 Linear Feet(37 boxes)

Arrangement

Materials are arranged alphabetically by artist name.

Scope and Contents

This series contains files maintained by LBMA on individual artists. Included are files for many, but not all of the artists whose work is included among the videos in Series VI of the archive, as well as additional artists whose video work is not represented in the archive. Many artists' files contain only one or two items, while others are quite extensive. Artists' files often include acquisition forms, press clippings, correspondence, exhibition ephemera, and/or curricula vitae, and occasionally sketches of installation plans and installation documentation. Donor files are included when works were donated to LBMA by an artist or a third party. Some materials relate to the artist in general and some pertain to specific video artworks. When known, the dates of the videos are indicated in parentheses following titles; the other dates refer to the materials in the files, which may be earlier or later than the artworks to which they relate.

Exhibition files, Series II. 1975-1999

Physical Description: 17.85 Linear Feet(40 boxes)

Arrangement

Materials are arranged chronologically by exhibition.

Scope and Contents

This series contains records related to video exhibitions organized by and presented at the Long Beach Museum of Art (LBMA) from 1975 to 1999. Files often include press releases, printed announcements, catalogs, posters, images and written content for printed materials, administrative papers, program notes, screening schedules, installation notes and sketches, mailing lists, acquisition forms, loan and payment receipts, press clippings, and correspondence with such key LBMA staff as David Ross, Kathy Rae Huffman, Michael Nash, Carole Ann Klonarides, Connie Fitzsimons, Peter Kirby, Jacquelain Kain, and Martin Betz. However, the records are not comprehensive; exhibitions in the 1980s tend to be better documented than those in the 1970s or 1990s, and some LBMA exhibition records are entirely absent from the archive. Videos associated with many of the exhibitions are located in Series VII. See also the chronology of film and video exhibitions  at LBMA from 1974 to 1999.
