Biography

Frank Murphy, Jr., Republican, was a State Assembly Member, 1967-1976. He represented cities in Merced County, San Benito County, and Santa Cruz County in the 31st Assembly District.

Murphy was born in Santa Cruz, California in 1934. He attended Holy Cross Grammar and High Schools and the University of Santa Clara where he earned a B.A. degree and an LL.B. degree. He served in the U.S. Navy and then became an attorney by profession. Frank Murphy married Christine A. Allegrini on July 7, 1962. They had four children: Michel Louise, Katherine Anne, Erin Estelle, and Lisa Marie.

Assembly Member Murphy's community and civic affiliations included such organizations and positions as member, Santa Cruz County and California State Bar Associations; Commonwealth Club member; Elks member; Downtown Lions member; Navy League of the U.S. member; Knights of Columbus member; Commonwealth Club member; Charter President, Leukemia Society, Inc., Santa Cruz Chapter; and Chair, Santa Cruz City Division, American Cancer Society.

Frank Murphy, Jr. was elected to the California State Assembly in 1966. He was Republican Whip, 1971-1972 and Republican Caucus Chair, 1973-1975. According to the California Legislature at Sacramento (Handbooks), he served on the following committees:
