Funny Boners was a children's version of the nighttime game show Truth or Consequences, both of which were developed by executive producer Ralph Edwards. The show was hosted by ventriloquist Jimmy Weldon and his dummies Webster Webfoot, a bragging duck, and Easy Marvin. If a contestant answered a question incorrectly, he or she would have to pay the consequences by performing an embarrassing stunt.

The show was created by Mark Maxwell-Smith, hosted by Arte Johnson and announced by Jay Stewart. The format was successfully revamped by the BBC as Odd One Out in 1983. Musical game. Two contestants vied for cash and prizes through a series of competitions that tested the player's ability to identify song titles correctly. Games were: Pick a Tune; The Golden Medley, and Bid a Note. Later version had a $100,000 jackpot, the largest at the time. Syndicated show was hosted by Tom Kennedy, the daytime show on NBC was hoted by Dennis James. Announcer: Jack Harlan. Kathie Lee Johnson (later Kathie Lee Gifford) and Steve Marsh sang.

Reality drama. The forerunner of the current crop of court shows, this was the first brainchild of the collaboration between Ralph Edwards and producer, Stu Billett. Taped in a courtroom set before a live gallery, the show highlights real small claims court cases, set before and adjudicated by a real judge. The first Judge Joe Wapner, with Bailiff, Sgt. Rusty Burrell presided of The People's Court for 11 years. Other judges have been ex New York Mayor, Ed Koch and Hon. Jerry Sheindlen.

The Ralph Edwards Show Series 13. 1952

Scope and Contents note

The Ralph Edwards Show was one of the first daytime variety shows: a combination of music, skits, comedy, contests, and "Truth or Consequences" type acts. Some of the regular features included FABULOUS FOLKS (interviews with interesting people), WHERE ARE THEY NOW (stars of the past), and RETURN ENGAGEMENT (serviceman &amp; entertainers they had heard in camp or overseas). It premiered 1/14/52 and aired Mon/Wed/Fri, expanding to five days a week 3/31/52. The last show was 5/16/52. Announcers were Hal Gibney, Ed King, and Jerry Lawrence; cast included muscle man Steve Reeves (before Ed Wood and Hercules made him famous), comedienne Sara Berner (as cleaning lady Mrs. Haggarty), singer Carol Richards, and musical trio the Varieteers.
