Arrangement

The majority of entries in this listing are derived from and arranged by topic as recorded in Bonney's original logbook(s) of negatives, with locations of various related prints and negatives noted by library staff. It is not a folder by folder guide to containers. The logbook for this series includes negatives numbered 1 through 1,247. A second group of negatives, numbered 9,707-9,745, appear related but are not listed in the logbook for any series. Series also includes un-numbered negatives grouped by subject, and numbered and un-numbered prints that appear to have been grouped together by Bonney. These groupings have been maintained at the folder level and all items have been cross referenced when possible. The bulk of material in this series is numbered, however when both un-numbered negatives and prints exist an attempt has been made to indicate the extent to which they correspond.

All negatives in Series 6 (NNEG boxes 83-96) were scanned in 2017-2018. Each image was given the title of Bonney's file of negatives in which it was found, as recorded in her logbooks (notebooks), usually with no additional description. These file titles are intended to provide context for the image, but they usually do not convey any details of the image content. In time, these may be updated with descriptive information.

Scope and Contents

Includes photographs of concentration camps Vaihingen, Buchenwald, and Dachau, Displaced Person camps, Neuschwanstein Castle and Hermann Göring's Collection of art looted by the Nazi's. Series also includes many images of the heavily bombed town of Ammerschwihr in Alsace, France and war relief efforts there. While the bulk of this series is presumed to be photographed by Bonney, it also includes many images of Bonney (creator unknown), images by others distributed by Bonney's news photo agency, and materials collected by Bonney.

NITRATE NEGATIVES ARE CLOSED TO RESEARCH DUE TO HAZARDOUS MATERIALS RESTRICTIONS. Many images in this series are nitrate negatives (designated "NNEG") with no prints available.
