CITIZENS' COMMITTEE
FOR THE
Defense of Mexican-American Youth
206 SOUTH SPRING STREET, ROOM 342
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA
TELEPHONE MUTUAL 4964

Dear Committee Member,
Now that our enlarged Committee has met, several things have been put into motion:
The most important decision made at our last meeting was that of hiring an attorney to carry on where George Shibley, now
with our armed forces, left off, namely, the handling of the appeal. For this job we secured the services of a very able and
well known labor attorney, Mr. Ben Margolis of San Francisco, who is coming to Los Angeles to practice law.
A report was made to effect that 13 of our boys might be eligible to be placed under the Youth Correction Authority, under
whose jurisdiction they may or may not be in jail. This authority is supposed to have jurisdiction over all convicted youth
under the age of 23 when apprehended and those not receiving a life sentence. The Youth Correction Authority substitutes for
imprisonment, in most cases, a scientific method of rehabilitation.
This angle was referred to our new attorney for further investigation and action.
We are also planning to publish a pamphlet on the case, in the very near future, giving the full story and background.
Election of officers was postponed until the following week when we hoped to have a more representative group present.
This means that it is most urgent that you meet with us next week. REMEMBER - IN HELPING FREE THESE BOYS YOU ARE DOING YOUR
BIT NOT ONLY TO RECTIFY A MISCARRIAGE OF JUSTICE, BUT TO SPIKE THE AXIS IN ITS EFFORT TO CREATE DISUNITY!
We meet next Wednesday evening, March 31 at 8 in our office, the Wilcox Bldg. 206 South Spring Street Room 342.
Sincerely,
LaRue McCormick
Secretary
