All religions are one I-FF-1 1970

Physical Description: 4 boxes

Publication Information

Authored by William Blake. Trianon Press for William Blake Trust.

Project History

Participants: Arnold Fawcus, Geoffrey Keynes
Work published: June 1970
Distributors: Trianon, Quaritch
Number of editions: 1
Size of editions: 636 copies for sale
Prospectus information: "For a variety of reasons Blake's early tractate, ALL RELIGIONS are ONE, is of the greatest interest. There is only one known copy in existence, the title-page coming to light only recently. This facsimile is thus the first publication of the delightful and important little book. It consists of ten delicately etched plates: The Frontispiece which depicts John the Baptist, a Title-Page, an 'Argument' and seven 'Principles'. In these, Blake formulates some of the ideas to which he returned in The Marriage of Heaven & Hell and later developed in the prophetic books. The plates were almost certainly etched soon after the death, in 1787, of Blake's brother, Robert, and just before those of the first illuminated book, Songs of Innocence, dated 1789. Technically their background is most intriguing. It was during this period that Blake was in Doubt about the technique he should use for his 'illuminated' printing and he received 'instruction in a vision' from the spirit of his brother, Robert. In the facsimile the reproduction is by colour collotype with occasional addition, by hand, of watercolour washes through stencils. To obtain a faithful reproduction, the entire text was silhouetted by hand on the collotype negatives. The facsimile is printed on pure rag Arches paper matching the colour of the original. Description and bibliographical statement by Sir Geoffrey Keynes. Page size: 30 x 23.5 cms. There are 636 copies for sale. 36 copies numbered I to XXXVI, each containing a set of proofs shewing the progressive stages of the collotype printing of the plates, with an extra set of the finished plates; bound in full morocco with a leather-edged slip-case covered in hand-marbled paper. 600 copies numbered 1 to 600 bound in quarter morocco with hand-marbled paper sides and a matching slip-case."

Water-colour designs for the poems of Thomas Gray I-HH-1 1972

Physical Description: 101 boxes

Publication Information

Authored by William Blake. Trianon Press for William Blake Trust.

Project History

Work published: 1972
Number of editions: 2 (Trianon Collotype and Pochoir; O'Hara (Chicago) offset)
Prospectus information: "The water-colour designs were reproduced by the collotype and hand-stencil process on Arches pure rag paper (made specially to match the paper used by Blake) in the workshops of Trianon Press (France) in Paris under the supervision of Arnold Fawcus. The texts of Gray's poems were printed on pure rag laid paper from copper plates, using three additional printing to reproduce Blake's pencil crosses and to obtain the tone of the paper. The introduction was composed in hand-set Garamond and the remainder of the text was set in monotype Garamond. The plates for the bound editions were 'guarded' by hand and the binding, portfolios and boxes were also made entirely by hand. The leather and hand-marbled paper were specially prepared for this edition. 132 copies, unbound in the French style, in quarter morocco portfolio, in a leather-backed matching box. 220 copies in three volumes, bound in quarter morocco, in individual slip-cases. 36 copies in a special de luxe edition for exhibition purposes, unbound in the French style in a full morocco portfolio, with an additional full leather portfolio containing progressive states of a single-colour plate, together with original guide-sheets and stencils and other material used in making the facsimile, presented in a matching box. 12 grand luxe copies bound in three volumes, full morocco, with a full leather portfolio containing material as above with additional proofs, negatives, etc."
