I.  District grants, 1984-1992

Physical Description: 10.75 Linear Feet (12 boxes)

Scope and Content Note

Records cover the planning, implementation, evaluation and general administration of the District Grant program managed by the Getty Education Institute for the Arts (GEI) from 1986 to 1992. Each of the recipient school districts and their work concerning arts education in their districts are represented in the grant files, as is the GEI's selection, review, and evaluation process. Vicki Rosenberg is the Getty staff member who figures most prominently in the files, though memos and correspondence from Program Director Lani Duke and Trust President Harold Williams are also present. Types of documents found in the records include correspondence, memoranda, notes, proposals, reviews and evaluations, reports, contracts, minutes, and agenda that range in date from 1984 to 1992.

Arrangement

The records have been divided into two sections, one for district grant recipients and one for district grants administration. The recipients are in alphabetical order and each has subsections for the planning and, where applicable, implementation phases of their grants. The Administration section is more loosely organized, but it has rough sections concerning general administration, meetings, and evaluations.

II.  Regional Institute grants, 1986-2001

Scope and Content Note

Records cover the planning, implementation, evaluation, and general administration of the Regional Institue Grant program managed by the Getty Education Institute for the Arts (GEI) from 1986 to 2001. Each of the recipient consortia and their work on discipline-based arts education curriculum implementation are represented in the grant files, as are the GEI's assessment, review, and evaluation processes. All stages of grant awards and the fulfillment of the grant requirements for various stages of planning, implementation, assessment, and evaluation are covered in detail. Vicki Rosenberg is the Getty staff member who figures most prominently in the files, though memos and correspondence from Program Director Lani Duke and Trust President Harold Williams are also present. Types of documents found in the records include correspondence, memoranda, notes, proposals, reviews and evaluations, reports, contracts, minutes, photographs, and agenda that range in date from 1986 to 2001.

Arrangement

The records have been divided into four sections, which include one for Regional Institute grant recipients, one for Regional Institute reviews and evaluation, one for Regional Institute administration, and one for the secondary phase of the project with the Annenberg Foundation.
The regional grant recipients are in alphabetical order by the name of the consortium and each has subsections for the planning and, where applicable, implementation, strategic planning, and assessment phases of their grants. The implementation phase is frequently subdivided by year and then by core vs. national specialty programming.
The review and evaluation section is in rough chronological order with subdivisions for planning and implementation reviews and for the overall multi-year evaluation project.
The administration area is more loosely organized but still subdivided into sections that include regional institute meetings, general correspondence and administration, student assessment grant administration, technical assistance grant administration, and national specialty program development.
The final section concerns the Annenberg Foundation grant (Transforming Education Through the Arts Challenge) and the consortium formed by the regional institutes which was awarded the grant. It includes specific sections on the consortium, evaluations, and marketing.

Scope and Content Note

Records cover the implementation and general administration of the Special Initiative Grant program managed by the Getty Education Institute for the Arts (GEI) from 1986 to 1998. Each of the recipients is represented in the grant files, though in some cases only a copy of the grant award letter is present. Vicki Rosenberg is the Getty staff member who figures most prominently in the files. Types of documents found in the records include correspondence, memoranda, notes, proposals, reviews and evaluations, reports, and contracts that range in date from 1986 to 1998.

Arrangement

The records have been divided into several sections, which include one for special initiative grant recipients, two for Goals 2000 Art Education Leadership Fund and Educational Research and Improvement (ERIC), and one for special initiative grants administration. The Special Initiative grant recipients are in alphabetical order. The ERIC and Goals 2000 files are organized roughly chronologically. These two projects seem to be more closely associated with the other special initiative grants than with any other grant category and have, therefore, been described here. The administration section is loosely organized and only contains a few files.

Scope and Content Note

Vicki Rosenberg's administrative files range in date from 1984 to 2001 and include general materials regarding the Getty Education Institute for the Arts' (GEI) grant activities, as well as its other initiatives and programs. The materials include records on GEI advisory committee meetings, budgeting, conference planning, Michigan office administration, and interaction with other GEI staff on their projects. The materials were created and maintained by Vicki Rosenberg, staff member of the Getty Education Institute, who managed GEI grant funding activities and reported to GEI Program Director Lani Duke. Other Getty staff members who appear in the records include Ted Mitchell, Julie Abel, Kathy Talley-Jones, Jack Meyers, and Matt Cullinan. Types of documentation found in the records include correspondence, memoranda, financial records, rights releases, speeches, programs, and photographs.
