It was a sad tale that the aged shipping merchant poured into the ears of the jurist as he told of his having been in well-to-do circumstances up to the time of his becoming blind, sixteen years ago. She drifted ashore without being hit and the pilots went out and blew her up when on the reef. The location was between Fare Ure Point and the little island Motuoa, which does not exist anymore as the wharves are now built on this reef on the north of the town. Captain Adams the pilot told me, she was laying on the same place where the German ship WESER was lost." - Capt. Klebingat letter 10/23/75.
