Abstract:

One typed schedule of President William Howard Taft's trip to New York and Passaic, May 9-10, 1910, which includes a visit to the Actors' Fund Fair at the 71st Regiment Armory in New York, a banquet of the Board of Trade in Passaic, New Jersey, and a list of personnel, including Captain Archibald W. Butt, Assistant Secretary W. W. Mischler, two secret service operatives, and a messenger. Two typed letters on official White House stationery signed by Fred W. Carpenter, Secretary to the President, to Mr. Charles Burnham in New York. The first, dated April 9, 1910, states that the President has made an engagement in Passaic, New Jersey the evening of May 9th and, in accordance with Burham's wish, will attend the fair that afternoon. The second letter, dated May 3, 1910, states that a schedule for the President's trip to New York on Monday, May 9th is included and Burnham is to meet the President's train in Jersey City with two automobiles with enough room for Captain Butt, Assisant Secretary Mischler, and a secret service operative.
