Journal of Lockport, N.Y. gold prospector (Sept. 1849 - Sept. 1850) with comments on Sacramento (merchants, "water lots,"
and flood of Jan. 1850); mining camp life in Placer, Nevada, El Dorado and Sutter counties; travels in the state; encounters
with Indians and Negroes; prices and wages, etc. Departure for home from San Francisco (Sept. 25, 1850) via Panama and Cuba.
(3 v., [379] p.). The reminiscences (part of which are based on the journals) cover mining experiences, etc. including adventures
restoring a kidnapped child to her parents, and continue with the voyage via Cuba and Panama; sailing with smugglers in the
West Indies; shipwreck off Columbia [?] and overland journey through Columbia to Peru; voyage from Callao, Peru to Humboldt
Bay [1854?]; overland to Sierra diggings and El Dorado Co.
(Cont.) travels and prospecting through the Southwest and in California; voyage from San Francisco to New York via Panama
and return trip (1859?); voyage from San Francisco to Victoria and prospecting on the Fraser River and in the Pacific Northwest
