Note:

Tom Vano was born on Long Island, New York, in 1926 and began his photographic career in 1939. During World War II he served as an infantryman, became official photographer for the U.S. Army headquarters in Occupied Berlin, and was one of the first Americans permitted behind the Iron Curtain, where he compiled a photo essay in Warsaw. Vano visited San Francisco in 1948 and moved there shortly after, where he pursued his photographic career. Vano has photographed many famous people (including Presidents of the United States), and has done work for numerous corporate clients as well as the Archdiocese of San Francisco.
