Abstract:
The oral history traces the life and career Theodore Harder, who served the campus as coach and athletic director. The stadium
was built in 1966 and is named after Theodore "Spud" Harder, a former coach of the Gauchos' football team. The team played
their home games at Harder Stadium until football was cut in 1992 due to budget cuts. The stadium has a capacity of 16,000
people, and is the largest stadium on California's Central Coast. Long-time Registrar at UCSB and its antecedents; director
of athletics, 1949-1956. Re his time at UCSB and early days in 1950s at Goleta campus. Interviewer: Gibbs M. Smith, UCSB Library
