Note:
Charles-Camille Saint Saens (1835-1921), was a French composer, organist, pianist, and conductor. Among his more well-known
works were Danse Macabre and the opera Samson and Delilah. A scholar of musical history, Saint-Saens was enthusiastic over
the modern composers of his day, although his own work remained within conventional classical tradition. He taught at the
École de Musique Classique et Religieuse in Paris-among the students he influenced was Gabriel Faure, who in turn influenced
Maurice Ravel.
