Title:

San Francisco Earthquake and Fire Photograph Album, 1906

Abstract:

The leather-bound volume contains 25 silver gelatin prints documenting the aftermath of the 1906 San Francisco Earthquake and Fire. The photographs record destroyed buildings and residences and a refugee camp in Union Square. Significant buildings documented are the Flood Mansion, the Observatory, De Young Museum, and Bandstand in Golden Gate Park. Many photos depict people walking in the streets with the rubble of buildings surrounding them. The last photograph is of a temporary tobacco and restaurant shack. Each photograph is numbered. The cover of the album has the initials "E.K." The photographer and compiler of the album is unknown. The photographs are chiefly high quality amateur views.
