Abstract:
The Papers of Richard Walker document his nearly forty-year career as a Professor of Geography at U.C. Berkeley. Included
are records of his work with Faculty for Human Rights in El Salvador and Central America (FACHRES) in the early 1980s, Save
the University (2009-2012) and other activists groups. The bulk of the collection consists of his correspondence files, which
include both personal and professional communications. Also included are materials relating to his fight for tenure (1980-1982),
his work with Antipode: A Radical Journal of Geography and a small representation of general administrative files.

Richard Walker is a Professor Emeritus of Geography at the University of California, Berkeley. He received his Doctorate from
John Hopkins University in 1977. Professor Walker's research is focused on economic geography, regional development, capitalism
and politics, cities and urbanism, resources and environment, California, class and race. He served five years as Department
Chair, 1994-1999. Professor Walker retired from the Geography Department in 2012.
